Volunteer Information:
Whether you are volunteering in the classroom, at a school wide event, or chaperoning a field trip please follow this link to complete the annual online Leon County Schools Volunteer Application. Please be sure to select "field trips" on the application when filling it out if you plan to attend a field trip. This application needs to be completed every school year.
Field Trip Chaperones:
All new field trip chaperones and returning field trip chaperones must complete a new volunteer application for the 2026-2027 school year. The new application will be available on July 1, 2026.
The principal or the designee must sign the Request for Background Check form prior to giving it to the volunteer office.
Below are the guidelines for both new field trip chaperones and returning field trip chaperones:
NEW FIELD TRIP CHAPERONES: Please note all field trip chaperones will be required to undergo and pass a level 2 clearance with fingerprinting at the cost of the volunteer. The cost is $61.00 and fingerprints are good for 5 years. Schools will give potential field trip chaperones the fingerprinting paperwork.
School Administration reserves the right to make the final decision for chaperone selection. All fingerprinting must occur 6 weeks before the field trip to allow time for processing.
Once the field trip chaperone is cleared by the fingerprinting office, they will be issued the field trip badge. The volunteer office will send the badge directly to the principal or principal’s designee via interoffice mail. The chaperone’s name will be placed on the school’s approved field trip chaperone list.
RETURNING FIELD TRIP CHAPERONES: All returning field trip chaperones will be required to complete a new volunteer application for the 2026-2027 school year. Once they have completed that process, within a few days, they will receive an e-mail informing them of their eligibility for the new school year. If their field trip badge is still current, they will be placed on that school’s approved field trip chaperone list. If their badge is expired, then the Volunteer Office will notify them they need to be re-fingerprinted. All returning field trip chaperones will use their badge previously issued as long as it has not expired.
