Gilchrist Elementary serves nearly 900 amazing students from Pre-K through 5th grade. Every day, our campus is filled with curiosity, creativity, and the joy of learning. We are proud to be an A-rated school, a reflection of the dedication of our students, families, teachers, and staff. At Gilchrist, we believe in fostering a supportive and inclusive environment where every child feels valued and empowered to reach their fullest potential. Our school day begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 2:50 p.m. Supervision is available beginning at 7:45 a.m. and ending at 3:20 p.m. daily.

What if my child is late to school?
If your child arrives late to school, you must bring them to the front office and check them in. If the tardy is due to an appointment, please provide a note from the physician in order for it to be excused.
What if my child is absent from school?
Florida Statues and Leon County School District policy state that it is the responsibility of the student's parents/guardians to notify the school when their child will not be in attendance.
It is the responsibility of the parent/guardians to make sure their children have recovered from contagious diseases before returning to school.
A written excuse from the parent/guardian is required when a student has been absent in order for it to be excused. For appointments, a note from the physician is required. If the student is home sick, a note from the parent/guardian with the dates the student was absent is sufficient.
All written excuses can be emailed to our attendance secretary, Morgan Swinson, at morgan.swinson@leonschools.net. They can also be turned into the office directly or uploaded on your Parent Portal.

Parents / guardians enrolling any student are required to provide the following information: (You will upload the following required documents into the pre-enrollment application.)
- Proof of child's birth date
- Proof of current State of Florida immunization records
- Physical examination (within the last year)
- Two proofs of residency:
- Homestead exemption, mortgage statement, deed, current lease, current rental agreement, or property tax record
-AND- - Current electric bill, or activation notice is acceptable (dated within 30 days), vehicle registration, or government mail. (Note: drivers' licenses and voter registration cards are not accepted as proof of residency)

- Withdrawal Grades, Transcript, Last Report card, Test Scores*

Safety is our top priority. We have secure campus entry points, regular emergency drills, and on-site staff trained in emergency response. Our visitor management system ensures that all guests are signed in and monitored. We also have a Safety School Officer on campus every day who monitors the campus.

Whether you are volunteering in the classroom, at a school wide event, or chaperoning a field trip please follow this link to complete the annual online Leon County Schools Volunteer Application. Please be sure to select "field trips" on the application when filling it out if you plan to attend a field trip. We promise it is quick and painless!
